Herman Miller Selected For SAM "Sustainability Yearbook 2011"

The Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) group has selected Herman Miller for inclusion in 'The Sustainability Yearbook 2011' and has awarded Herman Miller both the "SAM Sector Leader" and "SAM Sector Mover" distinctions.

Founded in 1995 as an independent asset management company, SAM is an investment group focused exclusively on Sustainable Investing. SAM have produced the Sustainability Yearbook in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to enable investors to identify companies that show thought leadership in environmental affairs. The following statement on their website is an indication of the high value placed on sustainable businesses:

‘We are convinced that companies with sustainable business practices are more successful'

SAM looks for evidence of companies' awareness of sustainability issues and for indications that they have implemented strategies to address these issues. SAM also looks at a company's progress in implementing such strategies and the quality of reporting on these issues. Therefore, the criteria for inclusion to the Sustainability Yearbook are structured to focus on the following elements: policies and processes, implementation through appropriate management systems, monitoring, performance indicators, and reporting practices.

Based on its Corporate Sustainability Assessment, SAM has compiled one of the world's largest sustainability databases and analyses over 1,000 listed companies annually. Only the top-scoring 15% of participating companies, with a minimum score of at least 60% of the score of the SAM Sector Leader in each of the 58 sectors assessed, are eligible for inclusion in The Sustainability Yearbook, so this is another example of Herman Miller leading from the front!
