Herman Miller Wins Social Innovation Award 2011

Herman Miller has been named as a winner in the Social Innovation Awards 2011, picking up the award for ‘Best Sustainability Performance’ in the Operations category.

This award goes to the company that has made the most substantial gains in reducing its “footprint” over the past twelve months, while maintaining a strong financial performance. The competition saw Herman Miller skip the shortlist process by outperforming other applications. The award is well deserved recognition for the tremendous effort put in by all Herman Miller employees to drive down our environmental footprint by a remarkable 90% - this is approximately 10% more than our 2010 goal.

The driving force behind these impressive results has been the continued implementation of successful environmental programmes, backed up by our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and the determination of the team that manages this.

The respect that we will gain from winning this award cannot be overstated. In today’s marketplace of dubious claims, we have proved that the goals we set at Herman Miller are based on action, not words, and that through hard work and perseverance these goals can not only be achieved, but bettered.

The international awards programme, organised by Just Means, is considered one of the top honours in the field of sustainability, and recognises companies implementing groundbreaking strategies and programmes that drive social and environmental innovation. Over 50% of the Fortune 100 have now participated in the program. Shortlisted applications to the 2011 program include: JP Morgan, Barclay’s, SC Johnson, Coca Cola, Heinz, Vodafone and PWC.

The award will be presented to Herman Miller at a ceremony in London on the 25th March.
