Furniture manufacturer and pioneer of the modern work place, Herman Miller, has been awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark by The Furniture Makers’ Company, the charity for the furnishing industry.

The Manufacturing Guild Mark has been the mark of excellence, distinguishing Britain’s top furnishing manufacturers, since 1993. Holders are expected to attain the highest standards in all aspects of their business, determined by a rigorous independent audit on application and every three years thereafter.

On receiving the award Vice President International Operations, Richard Scott, said: “We are delighted to be awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark. Herman Miller prides itself on designing furniture with people in mind, and manufacturing it to the highest standards possible. It is an honour to have this commitment recognised by the Furniture Makers’ Company.”

Dr Tony Smart MBE, Master of the Furniture Makers’ Company presented the Manufacturing Guild Mark during a ceremony at Herman Miller’s Melksham factory on 21 June. He commented: “I would like to extend my congratulations to the whole team at Herman Miller for being awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark. The Manufacturing Guild Mark is the highest accolade UK furnishing manufacturers can aspire to achieve. Unlike other Guild Marks, the Manufacturing Guild Mark is awarded to the company and not a specific product or product range. Retailers, specifiers, distributors and consumers that deal with companies that hold the mark can rest easy knowing that they are buying from a business that has achieved the highest standards throughout all of its operations.”

The Keyn Chair Group, designed for Herman Miller by British design firm forpeople was recently awarded a Design Guild Mark, and the Jonathan Hindle Prize for Excellence, also from The Furniture Makers’ Company.
